Food of Florida

Dear Parents,

Over the course of the trip we've gotten the luxury of tasting many different styles of food. We've had Italian, Mexican, Cuban, Creole, Japanese, Bayou and Bagels! We would like to share with you some of our dining experiences...

MONDAY
The first night we were here, we had pasta from Sal's. We had two different kinds of pasta and garlic knots. It was good to taste Italian after a long car ride and a good way to kick-off the trip.

TUESDAY
That next morning we had bagels and various fruits from Poppy's Bagels. For lunch we ate leftover Italian from Sal's because we had so much left. For dinner we had La Bamba, which was Mexican. It was really good! While we were at the Mexican restaurant, the waitress started passing out drinks while we were praying; it made us laugh. Matt also ordered an apple burrito without asking Ms.Taft for permission.

WEDNESDAY
The next morning we had bagels from Poppy's Bagels again, along with doughnuts and fruit. For lunch we went to Chef Creole. At first glance, Chef Creole was a little intimidating - it wasn't like the other places that we normally eat. The one menu they had was ripped and the items didn't sound completely appetizing. We had to wait in a long line to order our food and sat outside at tables while it was being prepared. The food was surprisingly good! The majority of us got fried chicken, which was probably the best. There was a very cool outdoor oven at the restaurant. The man that was cooking was very nice and gave us some free samples of jerk chicken. Chef Creole is famous for it's jerk chicken. Chef Creole also had really cool music playing while we were eating.

For dinner that night we had Mai Hibachi. Some people ordered Sushi and some ordered the hibachi. The man cooked our food in front of us, which was very cool. After dinner was finished, Mr. Dia decided that it would be funny to tell the people that it was Mr. Burton's birthday. The staff at the restaurant then brought out an ice cream bowl for him with a candle in it. They also had one man banging a gong the whole time. Mr. Burton could not stop laughing and we could not stop laughing either.

THURSDAY
Thursday morning we drove down to the Everglades and they had a restaurant called the Coopertown Restaurant. Coopertown has a population of 8 people! The restaurant was cramped and had a lot of stuff in it; t-shirts, business cards on the ceiling, gator teeth charms, bracelets, key-chains, necklaces and lots of hats. The menu had frog legs and gator tail, and also breakfast sandwiches. We all ordered breakfast, but we also all tried the frog legs and gator tail. It was good, and it tasted like chicken!

We were planning to have Chef Creole again for lunch but instead we "decided" to drive through the airport and ran out of time for lunch because we needed to get the after school center organized and decorated before the kids got there. We were hoping to grab lunch, but we worked all the way up until it was time for the tour and we had to skip lunch!

After our tour, we played with the kids at the after school and there was no point in having a 4:00 lunch, so we got to stay and play with the kids longer and got to have an early dinner in Miami! We ate at a place called Puerto Sagua. It is a Cuban restaurant. It was very good. They had a lot of different food on the menu, not just Cuban. After we finished dinner, Matt thought it would be funny if he proposed to Ms.Taft in front of the whole restaurant. Everyone at the table was laughing really hard. It was very funny. SHE ACCEPTED!

Once we got back to the Duncan Conference Center, we walked to an ice cream and frozen yogurt place called Brendy's and got ice cream. They had soft serve ice cream, frozen yogurt, regular ice cream, and lots of toppings and candy . It was very good.

FRIDAY...
Tomorrow morning we will have Poppy's bagels and than eat lunch and dinner on the road and see you at 9:00pm (maybe)!
